Israeli war jet on Wednesday evening launched a missile at a car that drove in northern Gaza Strip, killing two Palestinians and wounding five others, medics and witnesses said.

Gaza emergency chief Mo'aweya Hassanein told reporters that two Palestinians were killed and five injured in an Israeli airstrike on a local car that drove in northern Gaza Strip.

The Israeli airstrike on the car was an response to ongoing rocket attacks carried out by small groups of militants on southern Israel, in spite of a fragile ceasefire that Hamas movement and other armed groups still committed to it.

The Islamic Jihad (Holy War) armed wing Saraya al-Quds said that two of its militants were killed in an air strike on their car, which was driving near the northern Gaza Strip refugee camp of Jabalia.

Early on Wednesday morning Israeli F-16 warplanes struck the borderline area between southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah and Egypt, and destroyed several tunnels used by militants in smuggling goods and fuels from Egypt into Gaza.

Israel has carried out a 22-day military offensive on the Gaza Strip in response to Hamas rocket attacks on Israeli towns and cities. Over than 1300 Palestinians and 11 Israelis were killed in the offensive that ended in January 18.
