An Israeli aircraft on Monday targeted a jeep of the Islamic Jihad militants who were driving east of al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza Strip, no injuries reported, witnesses and the Palestinian militant group said.

The group's spokesman Abu Hamza said in a leaflet sent to reporters that the Israeli aircraft targeted a group of Islamic Jihad militants while they were driving a jeep, adding that the group was on a mission.

He also said that the militants managed to jump from the jeep shortly before the aircraft fired a rocket that completely destroyed it, adding that no injuries were reported.

Witnesses living in the area said that an Israeli aircraft fired three rockets at the car that drove in an opened area east of the refugee camp in central Gaza Strip, also saying no injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, Israeli Radio reported that an Israeli army force traded fire with a group of Gaza militants near the fence of the borders between eastern Gaza Strip and Israel.

The Radio added that the clashes erupted after an Israeli army force noticed a group of militants were planting a roadside bomb near the fence of the borders. The group escaped in a car, where an Israeli aircraft bombarded it.

The Israeli army had carried out a 22-day air, sea and ground military offensive on the Gaza Strip that ended in January. Both Gaza militants and Israel declared a fragile ceasefire.

An 18-month-truce between Hamas movement and Israel, mediated by Egypt, was about to be declared, but failed when Israel conditioned reaching the truce with the release of its captive Israeli soldier in Gaza Gilad Shalit.
