More than 300 workers and soldiers started Friday morning to shore up two breached river dikes in east China's Jiangxi Province, as floods that have killed 211 people ravaged the south of the country for a 11th day.

Yue Xi, a police officer in charge, said they had filled in the breaches with 800 cubic meters of rocks and sands by 8:00 AM.

More than 100 trucks loaded with rocks and sands and dozens of heavy machineries were waiting at the construction sites.

The Fuhe River in Fuzhou City breached its banks for a second time early Wednesday, two days after a dike on another section of the river burst, forcing the evacuation of 100,000 people, according to the provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.

Yue said the headquarters hoped to fix the breaches in six days.
