Flash Flood Leaves 9 Dead, 11 Missing in SW China

Nine people are confirmed dead and 11 are missing after a flash flood triggered by torrential rains in southwest China's Guizhou Province.

Nine townships in Wangmo, a county in Buyei-Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Qianxinan, were struck by torrential rains at around 11:00 PM on Monday, leading to a flash flood, according to the Emergency Response Office of Guizhou provincial government.

The nine dead came from the townships of Xintun, Dayi and Fuxing.

The flash flood also destroyed 58 houses and 1,200 rooms, two bridges, a provincial highway and many power poles which caused blackouts in eight townships and affecting 26,000 residents, said the local source.
