China Foundation Receives 291 Mln in Quake Relief Donations

The China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation received donations totaling nearly 291 million yuan (US$42 million) by June 16 in disaster relief funds and goods for survivors after the May 12 massive quake.

The donations include 182 million yuan in cash and 109 million yuan worth of relief goods.

Wang Xing, the foundation's secretary-general, told a press conference that the foundation's disaster reduction office had made an overall reconstruction plan in order to "meet the needs ofquake survivors in time and make use of donations more efficiently".

Yi Neng Ching, the foundation's image ambassador and Taiwan pop singer, and Zhang Jianfeng, chief news editor of the foundation's cooperative website Sina.com.cn, briefed the media about their part in disaster relief.
