Road Construction Continues in Quake-hit Areas

Many roads that were badly damaged in the earthquake are now open to traffic in Sichuan.

This is Pingguan Bridge in Pingwu County, Mianyang City. It was seriously damaged by the quake. Soldiers and experts worked for two and a half days to repair the bridge.

Huang Dongtai, deouty County Chief of Pingwu County, said, "The reopening of this bridge solves the communication problems we faced. It also makes the 50,000 people in five towns get relief materials smoothly."

Other roads in Mianyang are also being repaired.

The road from Dujiangyan to Yingxiu was also badly damaged. Construction workers are working to reinforce it with steel frames. Heavy trucks can now use the road. It should be fully cleared in the next two months.
