Tangjiashan Lake: Operation to Be Completed by June 5

A total of 34 quake lakes were formed by the Wenchuan earthquake. And 28 of them pose a threat to survivors of the disaster. China has undertaken a massive operation to deal with the situation.

On Tuesday, a 5.4-magnitude aftershock hit Qingchuan County in Sichuan Province and another 5.7-magnitude tremor shook neighboring Ningqiang in Shaanxi Province.

Luckily, the aftershocks did not cause more major damage to the three quake lakes in Qingchuan County.

But the director of the Mianyang earthquake relief headquarters, Tan Li, said the water level of Tangjiashan quake lake rose by 1.79 meters on Tuesday.

Tan also said the authorities are doing their utmost to deal with the issue and their work is going well.

The emergency operation headquarters at the Tangjiashan barrier lake says the operation will be completed by June 5th and the water in the lake will not be channeled out in the coming days.

China Mobile's branch in Sichuan Province has transported another satellite telecommunications facility to Tangjiashan.

China is making all-out efforts to ensure there are no more casualties in the aftermath of the massive earthquake more than two weeks ago.
