More Psychological Support Offered in Sichuan

More psychological counselors are heading to Sichuan, where they hope to help the survivors overcome their emotional pains and suffering.

This girl has been tortured by her memory of the earthquake. Her fractured leg is sharpening her pain. She hasn't been able to get a good night's sleep for days. Counselors decided to use hypnosis.

"Close your eyes slowly. Take a deep breath. Inhale slowly."

Less than 15 minutes later, the girl fell sound asleep.

In a tent, Dang Yuxin, a Tangshan earthquake survivor, is trying to comfort a three-year-old girl. Injured during the quake, she is nervous and constantly on the edge. Dang Yuxin keeps talking to her, watching her draw. The girl awards her with a smile finally.

There are many other counselors like Dang Yuxin, working in disaster areas.

Wu Xiaoping, Psychiatrist of Mianyang Center Hospital said "After treatment, they become more relaxed. We even saw a very nervous man falling asleep. When we saw them again the next day, most of them have smiles for us."

Most of these counselors are volunteers. They hope to help survivors recover from their emotional stress. But experts say that, given the scale of the disaster, the process could prove long and difficult.
