Senior Chinese leaders Xi Jinping,Li Keqiang and He Guoqiang are in the quake areas to inspect rescue and relief work and let the people know the government is thinking of them.
Vice President Xi Jinping has visited the quake zone in Shaanxi Province. He directed officials in Yueyang County to give priority to the interests of the ordinary people in rescue work and to plan for reconstruction. He also visited the students and teachers at the Yueyang Second Middle school to encourage them. He then comforted survivors at neighborhood community. The vice president also stressed the importance of disease prevention.
Vice premier Li Keqiang arrived at the epicenter in Wenchuan county Tuesday morning. He inspected relief work at the Zipingpu Reservoir and Xuankou town.
He praised the brave efforts of policeman Wang Jian, who though injured on the job, continues to serve. Li also encouraged the Chengdu Armed Police to restore the road from Dujiangyan to Wenchuan as soon as possible. Li also went to Dujiangyan to inspect the allocation of aid. He asked the survivors how they're doing and instructed more tents be produced and sent in. The vice premier also ordered to simplify procedures to speed up the allocation of materials.
He Guoqiang has visited the injured in hospital in Liangping county of Chongqing municipality. He also went to an elementary school which was badly damaged during the quake. He said new school buildings must be able to withstand quakes. He Guoqiang praised the teacher Tang Fang, who led forty of her students to safety. He also inspected the Liangping railway station and two hospitals. He asked the doctors and nurses to overcome their fatigue to provide the patients with timely medical treatment.
