Roads to Wenchuan Restored

The east and west trunk roads into Wenchuan have been restored, allowing more relief materials to reach the epicenter. Workers are now turning their focus to restoring roads in rural areas.

More than 1000 vehicles loaded with relief materials reached Wenchuan on Monday. So far, more than 60,000 vehicles have carried around 740,000 tons of relief materials to Shaanxi, Chongqing, Gansu and Sichuan through repaired trunk roads. Fifteen damaged roads in the rural areas are being repaired.

Meanwhile, the first train transporting the wounded left Mianyang on Monday, and 23 trains are on standby, ready to transfer people.

Also on Monday, chartered planes from Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Taiyuan and Zhengzhou carried nearly 200 tons of medical materials to the quake-hit areas.
