Since the earthquake shook the ground in Dujiangyan City, Sichuan Province three days ago, thousands of people have lent a helping hand to those who are suffering. We take a closer look at how these good Samaritans are creating a harmonious environment in a devastated area.
With the hard work of soldiers and technicians, tents for those left homeless have been set up within a short period of time. Many local people went to rescue their trapped neighbors immediately after taking care of their own family members.
12 emergency stations in Dujiangyan city are now open to the public day and night. Doctors and nurses work there till midnight.
This is a settlement site in urban Dujiangyan City for people displaced by the disaster. Although many rural people themselves suffered in the earthquake, they still arrive bringing food here to help others. Some of them walked for three hours to get here.
Some local people are working hard to reduce the burden on the government's relief effort, helping themselves whenever possible.
"Nearby houses have collapsed. But our house is all right, so we can cook by ourselves. We try to help ourselves and not bother the government too much."
People from far away have also lent a hand as well. Mr. Li, an entrepreneur from eastern China's Zhejiang Province, brought ten of his employees along with two of his company's rescue vehicles the day after the earthquake. They traveled over two thousand kilometers to get here, arriving in Dujiangyan city Thursday morning. They are eager to get involved in the rescue work immediately.
