Local Gov't Donations to Quake-hit Areas Hit 90 Mln yuan

Local governments have donated 89.92 million (US$12.8 million) for victims in earthquake-hit areas in southwest China, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

The donations include 3 million yuan from Beijing, 15.3 million yuan from Hebei, 10 million yuan from Shanxi, 10 million yuan from Liaoning, 4.12 million yuan from Heilongjiang, 12 million from Shanghai, 10 million yuan from Jiangsu, 10 million yuan from Zhejiang, 5 million yuan respectively from Fujian, Jiangxi and Hunan, and 500,000 yuan from Qinghai.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake centered on Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province, occurred on Monday afternoon and affected many parts of the country.

The death toll from the powerful earthquake has exceeded 12,000 and is still rising.
