Sichuan Capital Still Feels Strong Aftershocks Tuesday Morning

The Sichuan provincial capital of Chengdu still felt strong aftershocks on Tuesday morning, after 9,219 people died in Monday's powerful earthquake.

Xiao Lin, a Xinhua reporter in Chengdu, felt an obvious tremor at 7:46 AM and saw the image of a projector move by centimeters. He also heard cracks of the building's structure.

The tremor, within minutes, was measured to be 5.3 on the Richter scale.

Xiao said he had about 10 such experiences since Monday evening.

The Sichuan Earthquake Networks said at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday that they recorded 1,180 aftershocks in the past three hours, with the strongest measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale. The aftershocks included two measuring 6.0 and 11 ones measuring between 5.0 and 5.9.
