Canada's first-ever Green Provincial Report Card was handed out Wednesday to mark the Earth Day, with C+ as the highest mark for the ten provinces and three territories.
This new set of rankings by Toronto's "Corporate Knights" magazine compared 10 environmental categories when assigning a grade to each of the provinces and territories to evaluate their environmental performance.
None of the provinces received an A or B-level grade, but three regions were assigned C+ ratings: British Columbia (B. C.), Ontario and the Northwest Territories.
B.C. had the highest individual score with 69 percent, Ontario with 67 percent and the Northwest Territories with 66 percent.
Toby Heaps, the editor-in-chief of "Corporate Knights," said B.C. led its peers when it came to green jobs and buildings, energy efficiency and organic food.
Prince Edward Island ( P.E.I.) received the worst rating in the study, with a score of 32 percent and a grade of F for its "lack of progress on green issues."
Newfoundland ranked only slightly higher than P.E.I. with a score of 38 percent, as well as New Brunswick which scored 40 percent.
Manitoba and Quebec were also assigned F-level grades in the report card rankings.
