Dalian is fully prepared to embrace this year's Summer Davos and will waste no opportunity to demonstrate to the world its role as a core city and growth engine in northeastern China, a city official said.
The World Economic Forum announced the details of its Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2009, better known as the Summer Davos, at a press conference in Beijing, on Thursday.
The international forum is named "Davos" after the annual winter World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Themed "Relaunching Growth", this year's Summer Davos is scheduled for September 10 through September 12 in the coastal city of Dalian in northeastern China's Liaoning Province.
"This year's Annual Meeting of the New Champions will focus on tangible business priorities to transform and revitalize the global economy in a sustainable manner," said Jeremy Jurgens, Senior Director at the World Economic Forum and Head of the Annual Meeting of the New Champions and Community of Global Growth Companies.
Held at a crucial time of global recovery, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will attend the opening plenary and deliver a special speech at this year's meeting. An official from the National Development and Reform Commission, the country's economic planner, highlighted the meeting's importance.
"China will present the achievements of the Chinese government in coping with the global financial crisis and safeguarding steady economic growth, as well as plans for the next steps. China will also demonstrate its positive attitude and its willingness to contribute to the stability of the global economy on this global platform," said Li Bin, Deputy Director-General of NDRC's Department of Foreign Affairs.
This is the second time that the Summer Davos has come to Dalian, a city that impressed organizers and guests two years ago with its hospitality, beautiful scenery and up-and-coming atmosphere.
"The most important contribution that Dalian has made is in the positive spirit passed on by the citizens to welcome global leaders here. That has been one of major reasons that we come to Dalian for the second time, because the quality of not only the hardware, but the software - the competence and attitudes of the citizens, officials and business leaders of Dalian," Jeremy Jurgens said.
More than 1,300 government officials, business leaders, scholars, and media gurus from 86 countries will attend the meeting.
Being fully prepared, Dalian - the financial, export/import, and industrial center of northeastern China - puts the forum onto its own developing agenda.
"We shall use the forum to converge the energy, wisdom and resources from all over the world in Dalian and blend it with local merits to reach our goal. The Summer Davos is the best opportunity, we will not waste it," said Li Wancai, acting Mayor of Dalian.
