Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz leaves on Tuesday for Copenhagen, Denmark to attend the summit which is dealing with the issue of global warming and the revision of the Kyoto Protocol, the government said.
In preparation for his departure to Denmark, Aziz presided over a cabinet meeting on Monday.
Mauritania is one of the Saharan and coastal countries which are facing great environmental changes, especially the advancement of the desert and the threat of destruction of the coastline protection cordon. Global warming is likely to lead to the disappearance of the coastal towns in the country, including the capital of Nouakchott.
At the Copenhagen summit, Mauritania will air its views under the umbrella of the least developed countries, which are calling on the "big polluters" to reduce the gas emissions and participate in the local development so that they can reduce the problems posed to their populations by climate change.
