Vice Premier Wang Qishan today urged the US to combat trade and investment protectionism to help accelerate global economic recovery.

China and US should join hands in solving the global financial crisis and other issues such as energy and climate change, said Wang, who met with Rick Larsen and Mark Kirk, co-chair of the US-China Working Group, in the House of Representatives, and other legislators ahead of the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.

Wang said China's opening up policy will not change as it needs to continue to bring in advanced technologies and expertise as well as high-caliber professionals as it pursues modernization.

The US sees the dialogue as a key part in bilateral relations and looks forward to cooperating with China in promoting world economic recovery, said US legislators.

Wang also today met with Henry Paulson, former US Treasury Secretary, and Yifu Lin, senior vice president and chief economist of the World Bank.
