Security Tight for Cancun Meeting

Mexico is getting ready to receive thousands of visitors in Cancun,for the UN Climate Change Conference.

Beginning on Monday, 15,000 government delegates, environmentalists, business leaders, journalists and others will attend the meeting in the halls of this Caribbean resort.

This annual conference of the UNFCCC, a 193-nation UN climate treaty, is also the sixth session of the Meeting of Parties to the Kyoto Protocol. Thousands of police officers were deployed on the streets over the weekend and checkpoints were installed in the highways leading to Cancun.

Delegates are meeting during what may end tied for the hottest global year in 131 years of record-keeping.
