Togolese Minister of State Charles Kondi Agba said on Saturday that the Beijing Olympic Games was a success.

China achieved success both in organizing the Beijing Olympics and in the competitions, said Agba, who is also minister of health.

"From what we saw in the television, we can say the Beijing Olympics was a success. First of all the organization was successful and secondly, China achieved success in the competitions because it captured the biggest number of gold medals," he told Xinhua.

The official was at the Lome International Airport to receive Benjamin Boukpeti, who won a bronze medal in men's kayak at the Beijing Olympics, the first Olympics medal for Togo.

"The Beijing Olympics will be historic for the Togolese people and it will be carved into our memories, because we won our first Olympics medal in Beijing," Agba said.
