The last batch of Olympic Family members, 63 Brazilian athletes and coaches, departed Beijing Capital International Airport late Wednesday night, an official said on Thursday.
Xu Zengxing, a Beijing Organizing Committee of the 29th Olympic Games (BOCOG) official stationed at the airport, said the Olympic Village was routinely closed on August 27, three days after the end of the Games. BOCOG would not continue to care for Olympic Family members as it was in preparation to host next month's Paralympics.
On Wednesday, 2,866 Olympians, coaches and supporting staff left Beijing via plane, trains and buses, Xu said.
Beijing's customs and border control authority said it had handled 40,046 arrivals from the Olympic Family and 36,605 departures between July 8 and August 27.
The authority said some chose to extend their stay after August 27 so they could travel around the country as tourists.
