All Races Abandoned on 6th Day of Olympic Sailing

All the 15 scheduled races of six classes on four courses were postponed to Friday due to weather conditions on the sixth day of Olympic sailing regatta on Thursday.

Finn and Yngling on Course E failed to sail the scheduled two races due to a light wind of less than 6 knots. Both two classes had finished seven of 10 planned races and could set sail for the double-point-counted medal race.

The light wind and low visibility also forced the three races for 49er on Course A to be cancelled, which had already finished nine races and ready for the medal race.

Two races for Laser, Laser Radial, RS:X Women and Men on Course C and B were also postponed to Friday when the reduced breeze remained in the late afternoon.

Reserve days before the scheduled medal race day will be used to try to complete the opening series even if six races have been completed.

Three races are scheduled on Friday for Laser, Laser Radial, Finn and Yngling, along with two races for RS:X Women and Men.

Races for Tornado and Star will make their debut on Friday, when strong wind is expected.

As the only multihull sailing event of the Olympic sailing, Tornado will be in the last ever Tornado Olympic competition.

The opening race of Star will witness the tight sail-off between eight-time Laser world champion and 2007 Star world champion Robert Scheidt from Brazil and Iain Percy from Britain, the gold medalist in the Finn class in 2000.
