Australia's Leisel Jones won the Olympic gold medal in the women's 100m breaststroke swimming event in Beijing on Tuesday.

Jonese touched home at 1 minute 05.17 seconds, bettering the previous Olympic record of 1:05.64.

Rebecca Soni of the United States took silver in 1:06.73, and the bronze went to Austria's Mirna Jukic who was timed 1:07.34.
