World and Olympic champion hurdler Liu Xiang says he is confident of victory over rival Dayron Robles in the men's 110m hurdles final at the Beijing Games.
"Robles is born to be a hurdler. He is younger than me and has great potential. The feat of setting the new world record is surely a boost for his morale." Liu Xiang told Beijing-based Daily Messenger on Saturday.
But Liu said he believed his progress in training will make him much more competitive. The much anticipated duel between Liu Xiang and the promising Cuban star is to take place on August 21st.
Liu said he won't feel depressed if he fails to defend his gold medal as the sport is only part of his life, not all.
Liu Xiang has been put under great pressure in the face of Robles recent achievements, as well as doubts over his fitness that emerged after an injury sustained in June.
However Liu said he has his own methods to relieve tension and talking with basketball start Yao Ming over the phone has been an effective way.
