Mexico Expects Good Results in 5 Olympic Sports

Chief of the Mexican sport delegation Carlos Padilla Becerra forecasted on Thursday good results in at least five sports of the Beijing Olympic Games, during a reception at the Mexican embassy in China.

Padilla said that there is confidence in diving, marathon, taekwondo, judo, archery and sailing.

Mexican ambassador to Beijing Jorge Eugenio Guajardo Gonzalez host a dinner to the Mexican delegation, attended also by director of the National Commission of Sports and Physical Culture Carlos Hermosillo.

On his part, Hermosillo was more cautious and said that Mexico expects some medals, "not a lot".

The average age of the Mexican athletes is 25 years old.

Guajardo said he was optimistic and hailed the enthusiasm, the unit and the mentality of the Mexican sportsmen to overcome challenges during the Olympic competition.

Guajardo said that sports unite distant countries and with different cultures as it is the case of Mexico and the People's Republic of China.

"Clearly there are differences, but I also see many Mexican sportsmen have Chinese coaches and there is an approach. As a diplomatic I seek to bring near both people's and these athletes are already doing it and I think that each day there are less differences," Guajardo said.
