Thailand Targets at 2 Boxing Golds at Beijing Olympics

Thailand aimed at two boxing gold medals at the Beijing Olympics, said chef de mission Thana Chaiprasit after the flag-raising ceremony at the Olympic Village on Thursday.

Chaiprasit added he was not sure whether Thailand would stand a medal chance in other sports.

Talking about Friday's opening ceremony, the delegation chief said," It must be very grand and a lot of Thai people want to see it."

Thailand sent a 90-member delegation, including 51 athletes to Beijing.

Thailand made its Olympic debut in 1952 and has sent athletes to 13 Olympic Games. Among its 17 Olympic medals, the majority have been won in the boxing ring along with the sports of weightlifting and taekwondo.

Its most successful Games was in Athens where, on the back of an outstanding four-medal haul by the country's female weightlifting team, it collected a record eight medals, including unprecedented three golds.
