Swiss Cyclist Albasini Out of Olympics Due to Injury

Swiss road cyclist Michael Albasini has had his Olympic Games dream ended due to injury, the Swiss Olympic Committee (SOC) announced on its website on Wednesday.

The 28-year old cyclist crashed while training on Tuesday morning and suffered multiple fractures of the left collarbone. After an examination, he was said to be flying home for surgery as soon as possible.

According to SOC, there will be no replacement for Albasini, but Albasini's loss didn't "pose any competitive disadvantage for his team-mate Fabian Cancellara".

The men's Olympic road race will be held on August 9, one day after the opening ceremony.
