Ma Zhenchuan, chief of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, said that October 1, the National Day, was a peaceful day.

"The public order was good in Beijing Thursday, with no major criminal case or case of disturbance of public order in the capital," said Ma.

He disclosed that 50,000 police officers had worked for more than consecutive 25 hours by the end of Thursday.

An extra 1.12 million security volunteers patrolled the downtown streets during the period.
