1 Mln People Work to Guarantee National Day Celebrations

More than one million people had worked to ensure a good public order Thursday in Beijing while an array of celebrations were held in Beijing to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), said the city's police chief.
Ma Zhenchuan, chief of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, said that October 1, the National Day, was a peaceful day.
"The public order was good in Beijing Thursday, with no major criminal case or case of disturbance of public order in the capital," said Ma.
He disclosed that 50,000 police officers had worked for more than consecutive 25 hours by the end of Thursday.
An extra 1.12 million security volunteers patrolled the downtown streets during the period.
According to Ma, more than 300,000 people participated in the grand celebration activities Thursday, including a military parade, and an evening gala held at the Tian'anmen Square.
