"I burst into tears when watching the splendid military review and pageant in the Tian'anmen Square this morning, and was filled with pride as a overseas Chinese, " said Wut Saelaeng, the president of Thai-Chinese Television Co., Ltd, at the 60th anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China.
Wut, a Chinese-blood Thai businessman in his 40s, told Xinhua that this morning he went to his television company in Bangkok quite early, and waited with his staff before the TV screen for the anniversary ceremony.
Starting at 9:00 AM, Thursday, the ceremony featured a mass pageant involving nearly 200,000 citizens and 60 simulated floats, a gala by around 12,000 performers and a military review.
"For all Chinese around the world, today is memorable day. Our motherland celebrates her 60th birthday, when we can announce with pride, 'the Chinese people have risen to their feet,'" said Wut, a so-called second-generation Chinese, whose parents moved to Thailand from China decades ago.
Indeed, it is the growing prosperity of the motherland that provide a reliable backing for all the overseas Chinese, said Wut.
Retrospecting China's history of the past 60 years, Wut said the country used to suffer a lot, but it also managed to achieve huge political, economic and social success, especially in the recent three decades, which marked China's rapid economic progress.
Under the wise leadership of Deng Xiaoping, Wut said, China had chosen the right way for development, and gained impressive achievement and prosperity. He gave his best wishes to China, hoping that she heads for a ever brighter future.
