Spectacular China Day Parade in Chicago Celebrates 60th Anniversary of PRC

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China (PRC) on October 1, a spectacular China Day Parade was held successfully in Chicago Chinatown Sunday, which attracted over 30,000 people from all over the city.

The parade featured 22 floats, 2 dragon teams, 3 lion teams, 30marching Groups, 8 marching bands and officials and dignitaries. The parade is a joint effort by Chicago Chinese community, Chinese Consulate in Chicago and the city of Chicago.

Nearly 100 institutions and organizations participate the parade, including Chinatown American Legion, Chicago Dragons Athletic Association, Consulate Office of PRC in Chicago, Dong Fang Performing Arts and Chinese American Association of Greater Chicago and 50 States Flag Unit, US Navy.

"This is going to be a historic parade in Chicago Chinatown. We had supports from many Chinese and American organizations," said Gene Lee, deputy chief of staff at the Office of Mayor in Chicago.

Liu Hong, President of Chinese American Association of Greater Chicago and the co-chair of the 60th Anniversary Organizing Committee, told Xinhua that "We overseas Chinese are very excited and proud of the 60th anniversary of the PRC. Since 1949, China has gone through tremendous changes. China has shown to the world remarkable achievements in every field, including economic growth, national strengthen, people's living standards, and Chinese foreign policy."

Huang Ping, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate in Chicago, said that "This event will not be possible without the China's development over the last 60 years. It won't be possible with out the sound and solid development of Sino-U.S. friendship. And it will not be so spectacular without all the efforts of organizers and volunteers here."
