The Chinese mainland on Sunday delivered a final consignment of 400 prefabricated houses to Taiwan to aid Typhoon Morakot relief efforts. The consignment follows the delivery of an earlier 600.

The houses were shipped from Shenzhen in China's southern Guangdong Province and will arrive in Taiwan's Kaohsiung port on Monday.

So far, 200 of the houses from the mainland have been sent to Kaohsiung County and 100 to Pingtung County, both badly hit by the typhoon. Another 300 have arrived in Taiwan and are to be delivered to Kaohsiung.

Typhoon Morakot ravaged Taiwan in early August, killing nearly 500 people and forcing the evacuation of thousands. It was the worst typhoon to hit the island in nearly 50 years, and caused havoc across the island's central and southern regions.

The manufacturers of the prefabricated units have sent 10 technicians to Taiwan to help with installation.
