Prof. Ji Xianlin (1911-2009) was the most renowned leading scholar of China. He was a well-known linguist specializing in oriental languages and Sanskrit. As a famous writer, he was also a master scholar in the study of India and the civilizational links between China and India. He was China's only recipient of the Padma Bhushan awarded by the Indian government.

Former foreign minister Li Zhaoxing is the chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the National People's Congress and the honorary president of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs. He is an extremely talented in the diplomatic field. Over recent years, he has done a great deal to promote Sino-Indian relations.

Former senior Vice Foreign Minister Liu Shuqing is the president of China-India Eminent Persons' Group. He used to be the director of the foreign affairs office under the State Council and the president of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. Over the years, as an outstanding leader in the diplomatic field, he has made a great contribution to improving Sino-Indian relations.

Shri Gopal Krishna Gandhi is the present governor of West Bengal. Throughout his career he has held numerous important administrative posts and was appointed as the ambassador and high commissioner of India in several countries.
Shri Gopal Khrishna Gandhi was born on April 22, 1945. His parents were Devdas Gandhi and Laxmiben Gandhi. He is the youngest grandson of Mahatma Gandhi. Shri Gopal Krishna Gandhi completed his master's degree in literature from St Stephens College, Delhi University.
Shri Gandhi joined the Indian Administrative Services in 1968 and served as an IAS officer in Tamil Nadu till 1985. He served as the secretary to the vice president of India from 1985 to 1987 and as a joint secretary to the president of India from 1987 to 1992. In 1992 he took voluntary retirement from the IAS and became the minister of Culture in High Commission of India, UK and the Director of Nehru Center, London.
In 1996 he was appointed the high commissioner of India in South Africa and Lesotho. The following year he took up the post of secretary to the president of India. The year 2002 saw him to be appointed as the high commissioner of India in Sri Lanka. In 2002 he became the ambassador of India in Iceland and Norway. On December 14, 2004 he took over as the governor of West Bengal.
He has also authored a play and a novel. In 2006 he took up the additional charge as the governor of Bihar. Shri Gopal Krishna Gandhi and his wife Tara Gandhi have two daughters.

Born on December 6, 1950, Nirupama Rao got a master degree of English literature when graduating from Marathwada University and then began working in the Indian government.

From January 1976 to October 1983, she worked respectively in India's embassy in Austria and Sri Lanka as well as Ministry of External Affairs; and became a first secretary in charge of South African and Nepalese affairs from 1981 to 1983 after returning to the ministry. From 1984 to 1992, she worked in the East Asian department of the ministry with main concern about Indian-Chinese relations. After that, she was a visiting scholar of the international affairs center of Harvard University,  mainly studying Asian-Pacific security. From October 1993 to October 1995, she was a minister in charge of information of India's embassy in the US.  From November 1995 to May 1998 she was India’s ambassador to Peru. From June 1998 to August 1999 she was deputy chief of mission of India's embassy in Russia.

From September 1999 to September 2000 she was the executive-in-residence of Maryland University in the US. In September 2000 back to the ministry, she became an official in charge of multilateral economic relations. From June 2001 to October 2002, she was respectively a joint secretary in charge of external publicity and the official spokeswoman of India's Ministry of External Affairs, thus becoming the first female professional who took this post. In October 2002, she was appointed an additional secretary of the ministry in charge of the human resource department. In February 2004, she was given the responsibility for supervising the inspector office in charge of India's external organizations. In September 2004, she became India's ambassador to Sri Lanka. From October 2006 to July 2009 she was India's ambassador to China.  On August 1 she assumed the office of Foreign Secretary of India's Ministry of External Affairs.

Her husband, Mr. Sudhakar Rao, is also a high-ranking civil servant of the Indian government and they have two grown-up sons. 

H.E. Nalin Surie was India's ambassador to China from 2003 to 2006, together with his wife Poonam. He was a secretary (vice-minister) of India's Ministry of External Affairs after returning to India and is now India's high commissioner to the UK "China: Search for its Soul" by Poonam Surie has be published at the beginning of 2009.

Ambassador Ren Jiade is the president of India-China Eminent Persons' Group. As a senior diplomat, he used to be   India's ambassador to Ethiopia, China and France. Since retirement, he has been very active in international studies and exchanges and visited China many a time.
