The State Council Information Office (SCIO) was founded in January 1991.

The main mission of the SCIO is to urge Chinese media to introduce China to the world, including international and domestic policies, history, science, education and culture. SCIO arranges international interviews, holds press conferences and provides Chinese-related materials to fulfill its mission. It conducts international exchanges and cooperation with foreign governments and media organizations..

At the same time, SCIO actively encourages Chinese media to report on international issues and inform Chinese people of global scientific, economic and cultural developments.

SCIO aims to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between China and the world so as to enhance world peace and human progress.
