China's overwhelming tennis favourite Peng Shuai demolished Uzbek Akgul Amanmuradova 7-5, 6-2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the Guangzhou Asian Games on Tuesday.
The opening set was extremely tight as the two competitors levelled all the way to 5-all before Peng edged a 7-5 in less than one hour.
The victory in the first set steadily built confidence on Peng, who currently ranked world 72nd. She mounted fierce attack on Amanmuradova's serve twice in the second set and wrapped up 6-2 in no more than 30 minutes.
It is the second tennis gold for host China at the ongoing Asiad, following the other in women's team event.
