Women's boxing made the debut at Guangzhou Asiad here on Sunday as Chinese boxer Ren Cancan clinched the first ever victory.
As the newly-crowned world champion, the 22-year-old Ren met no challenge from her opponent Jang Euna of South Korea and won the four-round preliminary with a convincing score of 8-1.
"After years of effort, we women boxers finally get the chance to participate in the Asiad. It is a great news for women boxing," said Ren.
The Guangzhou Asiad see the women's fight for the first time after the competition was included into the London Olympics last August.
The Asiad has three categories for women -- flyweight, lightweight and middleweight. The entry into the Olympics gives not only China's women boxing, but also the whole boxing ring a huge boost.
