Hu Calls for Strengthened Confidence in Fight Against Crisis

Chinese President Hu Jintao on Thursday called on the world to strengthen confidence to confront the global economic crisis.
The president made the remarks in a speech at the Group of 20 (G20) financial summit in London.
"We have the enabling conditions to tackle the financial crisis," Hu noted, saying that "through years of development, the world economy is on a solid material and technological footing."
"We have the policy means: Today, we have far more macro regulatory tools at our disposal and our regulatory measures are much more focused and effective than before," he said.
"We have the common will: The entire international community has demonstrated readiness to enhance coordination and cooperation," he added.
"As long as we strengthen confidence and work together, we will tide over the difficulties and achieve our shared goals," said the president.
The G20 Summit concluded on Thursday with consensus on how to save the world out of the financial crisis, including a pledge of US$1.1 trillion to revive the world economy, a joint call to fight protectionism, and concrete actions to tighten banking regulations.
