Official from the Economic Commission for Latin American and the Caribbean (ECLA) urged on Monday the upcoming G20 Summit to hear more from developing countries.

Alicia Barcena, ECLA executive secretary, said that the G20 Summit should seek concerted measures to deal with the global financial crisis and hear the voices of the most vulnerable economies.

The international community should understand that right now is not the moment to isolate but to have solidarity and unity to reach the goal of reducing poverty, Barcena told the Governors Assembly of the Inter American Development Bank (IDB).

During the meeting, participants discussed the increasing of the IDB's capital to tackle the challenges Latin America is facing amid the global financial crisis.

Some US$180 billion has been proposed to be added to the yearly capital of the IDB to aid the needed countries. Currently the IDB has a yearly capital of some US$100 billion.
