Li Yue is a pretty girl, she loves dancing and drawing. She began learning ballet six months before the earthquake. Her desire to live and her dream of dancing helped her endure 70 hours under the ruins. On the morning of May 15, doctors had to amputate her left leg to help her out of the ruins and save her life.

After the surgery, Li Yue was still in danger, but she managed to recover. The first words she told her family was: "My classmates all died. But I lived by thinking about dancing."

Chapter Three

Now, Li Yue can dance again. As the music became louder, she became more excited.

People will not be able to forget this scene: Li Yue opened her eyes wide in the ruins and asked the rescue crews: "Am I brave?" She was very brave, and she was only 11 years old. But she often cried in bed, because of the pain, as well as her dashed dreams. People saved her life, now they want to make her dream come true.

During the Dragon Boat Festival, the famous one-arm-dancer Ma Li went to see Li Yue from Beijing. She encouraged Li Yue: "We can also have perfect art although we are handicapped."

People invited her to visit the National Theatre to see a real ballet. Li Yue spent a long time in front of a statue of a woman to fly.

The Beijing Paralympics has helped fulfill Li Yue's dream. Zhang Jigang, the head director for the opening ceremony of the Paralympics, said Li Yue's story matched the theme of one performance: "So we changed the original plan and invited Li Yue to come to dance. This role was made for her. We want to express our concern and support to people in the earthquake-hit areas. And we want to make Li Yue's dream come true."
