Beijing is expected to substantially cut its annual issuance of car license plates by two thirds to only 100,000 every year in a continual bid to harness its existing air pollution following the Beijing Olympic Games.
This is the latest news coming from a recent seminar on the prospect of Beijing's automobile market that began on October 15 in Beijing, the sohu.com reports.
It is believed to be part of the city's new series of car flow control measures to follow suit to the situation during the Olympics, when Beijing's sky was fortunately brought back to a historic blue and cleanly fresh in history.
Reports say other measures that Beijing has so far introduced include last week's new rule of five-day traffic restrictions, and also the parking fee and petrol price increases.
According figures, the total number of cars in Beijing reached a high of 3 million by 2007. Currently, the city keeps issuing car number plates by 300,000 a year. The city sources say that Beijing will work harder to contain its total number of cars within 3.2 million by this year end.
