At the end of 2008, following the announcement of 14 measures in seven fields to support Hong Kong's economy, the central government put forward The Framework for Development and Reform Planning for Pearl River Delta Region, which proposed several important measures to develop regional economy, including the speeding-up of the construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

"I believe, with the support of the central government and inland provinces and cities, as well as the efforts of the SAR government and Hong Kong people from all walks of life, Hong Kong will definitely get through the crisis and rewrite a new and magnificent chapter," he said.

In the new year, the central government will unswervingly continue to implement the principles of "One country, two systems", "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy, continue to support the Chief Executive and the SAR government to govern by law, and continue to support Hong Kong to develop economy, improve people's livelihood, promote democracy, maintain harmony and safeguard Hong Kong's long-time prosperity and stability, the director noted.

Meanwhile, Gao promised that his office will better shoulder its responsibility in communication and liaison to make greater efforts for Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.
