Chinese Shares Hit 7-month Low Thursday

Chinese equities posted widespread losses, retreating to the lowest in the past seven months Thursday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.1 percent.

The major gauge index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange ended at 2,868.43 points, down 31.9 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed at 11,196.35 points, down 137.5 points, or 1.21 percent.

Total turnover expanded to 222.2 billion yuan (US$32.5 billion) from 189.85 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
