Japan's central bank decided to keep its key interest rate unchanged at 0.1 percent as widely expected.

The decision was made after a two-day policy meeting of the Bank of Japan's eight-member decision-making board.

The bank has kept the rate unchanged since December 2008.

The central bank also unveiled a 3 trillion yen funding scheme to boost growth of the second largest economy in the world.
