Eurozone Industrial Orders Recover in November

Industrial new orders recovered by 1.6 percent in the eurozone last November compared with the previous month, the European Union (EU) statistics agency Eurostat said on Friday.

In the 27-member EU, new orders rose by 1.8 percent month on month in November after a fall of 1.4 percent in October, Eurostat said.

Compared with November 2008, industrial new orders decreased by 1.5 percent in the eurozone and by 2 percent in the EU.

Among the various industries, new orders for intermediate goods increased by 1.8 percent in both the eurozone and the EU. Non-durable consumer goods rose by 1.2 percent and 1.9 percent, and durable consumer goods gained 0.3 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively. Capital goods fell by 1.2 percent in the eurozone, but grew by 1.2 percent in the EU.

Among the EU member states for which data were available, total manufacturing working on orders rose 13 percent and fell 8 percent, respectively, on a monthly basis. The highest increase was recorded in Estonia, up by 7.4 percent, and the largest decrease was in Hungary, down by 9.6 percent.
