Chrysler Shuts Mexico Plants Due to Parts Shortage

US automaker Chrysler announced on Thursday it had suspended production at all Mexican plants due to a lack of US-made parts.
"We have had to stop because some of the components we get here are made in US plants where they had had to stop work," said a spokesman for Chrysler in Mexico.
Chrysler has filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States, a legal procedure that will protect it from creditors for a limited time when it restructures.
Chrysler is waiting for a bankruptcy court ruling on its revival plan that will create a partnership with Italy's Fiat.
The US automaker has a total of 5,000 employees in three plants in Mexico.
