The UN General Assembly agreed by consensus on Tuesday to hold a summit meeting on the global financial and economic crisis from June 1 to 3, said a spokesman of the president of the General Assembly.
"In the midst of the most serious economic downturn since the Great Depression, we now have the opportunity and the responsibility to search for solutions that take into account the interests of all nations, the rich and the poor, the large and the small," said Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann, president of the 192- member assembly, in a message.
The conference will focus on issues like trade, investment, development as well as the reform and strengthening of the world's financial and economic system and architecture, spokesman Enrique Yeves told reporters.
He said the president has urged all member states to participate in the conference at the level of heads of state and government.
A draft outcome text for negotiation will be circulated early in May, the spokesman added.
