Fruit Price Hike

The prices of fruit, especially lychee and watermelon, is about to climb 20 percent as the city's early spring fruit supplier, Hainan Province, was hit by Typhoon Neoguri days ago. However, the price of fish and shrimps will fall.

January snow delayed the arrival of seasonal fruit to the market. Now, due to the typhoon, the yield of lychee is estimated to have been reduced by 20 percent to 60,000 tons.

The price of crucian carp will drop from 7 yuan (US$1) to about 5 yuan per 500 grams, the price of herring and variegated carp will be about 5.5 yuan per 500 grams, and the price of shrimps will drop by 6 yuan to 26 yuan per 500 grams.
