Police have detained six people in connection with a factory ceiling collapse that killed seven people and injured one in east China's Jiangsu Province, police said Sunday.

The ceiling of a workshop of China International Marine Containers Group in Jiangsu's Nantong City, a leading container manufacturer, caved in at around 5:50 AM Friday, burying eight workers.

Project managers surnamed Gu and Zhang as well as safety inspectors had organized the construction without a license and did not comply with safety rules, said a spokesman with the city's public security bureau.

Police did not reveal the specific identities of the six suspects.

Police and safety officials were continuing to investigate the accident.
