Three people went to trial at a Shanghai court Thursday for allegedly producing and selling melamine-tainted dairy products, the court said.

The three were Shanghai Panda Dairy Co.'s corporate representative, general manager and deputy general manager.

After a government inspection in April 2009, Shanghai Panda Dairy was found to have produced milk powder and condensed milk with unacceptably high levels of melamine, the Fengxian District People's Court said.

Melamine can cause kidney stones and kidney failure.

The melamine-tainted milk powder scandal in 2008 killed at least six infants and sickened 300,000 children across the country.
