"The ethnic Chinese entity cannot be separated from Indonesian history. They had partly fought for independence. They also undoubtedly contributes to the economic development in the country, " the TMII deputy spokesperson Jerri Lahama was quoted as saying by the Detik.com here.

According to Jerri, the ethnic Chinese exhibit will take 4.5 hectares of the TMII's area. It will be completed with a plaza themed brotherhood of ethnic Chinese with other entities, Cheng Ho museum and a miniature of a Chinatown.

Jerri said that besides the ethnic Chinese exhibit, the landmark theme park management will also build Indian and Middle East exhibits completed with cultures of the two entities. They are also part of entities that partly shaped Indonesian culture.

Indonesia recognized the civil rights of ethnic Chinese in 2000 during the administration of the fourth president Abdurrahman Wahid. Jerri said the plan to build the ethnic Chinese exhibit was initially planned in 2003.
