Body Retrieved from Flooded Colliery in E China

At least one miner was confirmed dead and another six are still trapped underground after a coal mine flooding in east China's Fujian Province on Wednesday.

Rescuers recovered one body from a shaft of mine in Yongding County at noon on Thursday, according to a county government official.

The circumstances of the other six people trapped remained unknown, and rescue work continued, the official said.

The accident happened at around 2:30 PM on Wednesday when seven miners were working underground at Laoliaokeng Coal Mine in Longtan Township.

Work safety bureau officials are investigating the cause of the accident.
