Times Square in New York attracts countless visitors from around the world every day. On Monday, the square hosted a Peking Opera performance, adding a Chinese flavor to the melting pot of the Big Apple.

Local residents and visitors from near and far gathered in Times Square for the evening performance of "Red Cliff", a newly adapted Peking Opera epic.

The 45-minute show was projected on eight giant screens around the Square. And the crowd was treated to a spectacular performance.

A local resident said, "We came to see this tonight. And then we go back to Brooklyn."

"Red Cliff" tells the story of a famous battle during the three kingdoms period, around two hundred AD. The battle took place at Red Cliff, where the army of the warlord Cao Cao was defeated and forced to withdraw.

The event was co-organized by China's National Center for the Performing Arts and the New York Mayor's Office.
